Bone Densitometry

ScreenHer_SaveHer_750x500

Bone Densitometry is currently the best-standardized method available to diagnose osteoporosis, the abnormal loss of bone tissue resulting in fragile bones and is also considered an accurate estimator of fracture risk. The results are being used to determine whether treatment is necessary and to monitor the effect thereof.

Quick, simple and non-invasive procedures using low-dose radiation.  A side view of the entire spine is also taken to assess the height of the vertebral bodies to exclude compression fractures. Additional views can be performed in the presence of metal prosthesis.

Take note:
Depending on the area that will be examined, you may want to wear loose, comfortable clothing. You may be asked to change into a gown for the examination and to remove any jewellery or other metallic items from your body before the examination.

The patient will be positioned on a bone densitometry table. The machine will use a small dose of radiation to produce pictures of the lower spine and hips to measure bone loss.
